What we believe

We are a community of Christians who believe Jesus Christ is the Lord and Saviour, and through him alone we find fellowship with God the Father.

We believe the Bible, though written by flawed people, was inspired by the Holy Spirit. Through its pages we discover God’s love for his creation and find the way to be saved and so find life and life in all its fulness. We take the Bible seriously, and it holds a central place in our faith and our services.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is available to all believers today to help us to live the way that God wants us to with purpose, love and joy. We believe God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit, and in our services we look to Him as He comes close to us.

We try to be a church with a heart for community which we have been serving for the last 120 years. We come from all walks of life, young and old, single and married, those with children and those with none.

We want to be a church community which blesses those around us, irrespective of belief. We want Charlton United Reformed Church to be a local church, offering a welcoming, safe place for all people, whatever their background.

Finally, you may be wondering about the meaning of our name, briefly it is:

CHARLTON because this is where we are.

UNITED because this church was renamed when different denominations combined.

REFORMED because we trace our roots to the spiritual reformation in the 16th century and

CHURCH because we are a church similar to the other churches.
